First aid is an essential part of accident and emergency management, but there are challenges that affect its effective delivery. One of the main problems is the lack of knowledge and skills, which can lead to unsafe actions. There is also a lack of qualified first responders, especially in remote areas or where there are large crowds of people. Communication and coordination between first responders and emergency services are also an issue, as is the timeliness and accessibility of first aid materials.
Aidy, an AI that supports first responders in emergency situations, was developed to solve these problems. Aidy is based on qualified medical knowledge through collaboration with medical partners and organizations. The vision behind Aidy is a society in which everyone can provide competent and confident help in emergency situations.
Our survey has shown that many people do not know how to react in the event of a medical emergency. Many go into shock or have difficulty recognizing the person's problem. In addition, one in six lay helpers is afraid of making mistakes when administering first aid.
Experts in the field of first aid confirm that lay helpers are often overwhelmed by emergency situations and also need support. They report that communication on the phone is often difficult because the emergency contact skips over important information or is unable to access them.

Future
Lack of knowledge and skills in first aid
Many people have not received sufficient training to provide effective first aid in emergency situations.
Unsafe or incorrect actions in emergency situations
Insufficient knowledge, nervousness, fear and stress often lead to unsafe or incorrect actions, which can make the situation worse.
Lack of qualified first aiders
There are too few trained first aiders, which is particularly problematic in remote areas or where there are large gatherings of people.
Communication and coordination problems
Inadequate communication and lack of coordination between first responders and emergency services make it difficult to provide efficient and rapid emergency care.
Timeliness and accessibility of first aid materials and resources
First aid materials are often out of date or difficult to access, which impairs the effectiveness of first aid measures.
In the ideation phase, we used methods such as future scenarios, benchmarking, stakeholder mapping, Futures Wheel, Question Zero, Future Cone and Crazy Eight to explore different approaches in order to develop comprehensive and innovative strategies for improving first aid. These methods allowed us to consider different perspectives, analyze existing solutions, identify key stakeholders and anticipate future developments. As a result, we were able to develop well-founded and future-oriented solutions that meet the needs of first responders and the people affected.
"Our mission is to give lay helpers the confidence and support they need to act effectively in emergency situations."
This is done using a mobile app and a voice-controlled drone. The app enables immediate interaction by the AI asking questions about the emergency situation, making a diagnosis and providing clear instructions. The drone analyzes the situation on site, makes a quick diagnosis, provides instructions and automatically alerts the emergency services. In addition, so-called “central aid locations” are set up, which are strategically placed storage points with all the necessary aids and equipment for emergencies. Three phases have been worked out to make the implementation of Aidy gradual and effective, with products being published at intervals of 1-2 years. This allows users to get used to using the Aidy products. The aim is to improve first aid care and shorten response times in emergencies.
The first phase is Aidy, the mobile app. This AI-supported software allows the user to interact immediately by asking questions about the emergency situation, providing an estimated diagnosis and giving clear instructions. The app can also call the emergency doctor and automatically pass on all the necessary information such as the location, type of injury and other relevant details.
Recognizes important information
The next phase is Aidy.wing. This involves using the intelligent drone. It is called automatically as soon as the Aidy app considers it necessary. The drones are strategically positioned on lampposts and other locations in the cities so that they can arrive at the scene of an emergency in less than two minutes. Here they are protected from vandalism and can also be recharged with electricity from the streetlight pole. The drone analyzes the situation on site, makes an initial diagnosis, gives instructions to the lay responders and automatically alerts the emergency services. The drone also has a voice function that communicates with the responder in a reassuring tone of voice.
In addition to the Aidy app and Aidy.wing, the third phase also includes a drone that delivers aids or materials to the scene of an emergency. This drone is larger and can carry items such as a defibrillator. In addition, so-called “central aid locations” are set up, which are strategically placed storage points with all the necessary aids and equipment for emergencies. Especially in the event of a heart attack, devices such as defibrillators can be vital for survival.
With Aidy, we strive to optimize first aid care and create a society in which everyone is empowered to provide competent and confident help in emergency situations.

In order to better reach our user group, the citizens, we planned a billboard campaign in public places such as train stations, city centers and other highly frequented locations. The posters highlight the necessity and importance of Aidy products. With Aidy, anyone can become a first responder, regardless of their level of experience.

To better understand the drone's dimensons, we 3D printed the Aidy.wing and built an Arduino board that shows the drone's flashing LEDs. The two colors of the LEDs flash at different speeds.
We created a mood board to develop the color scheme and overall appearance of the brand and the app. It was important to us that Aidy stands out and that the information can be grasped quickly. For this reason, we looked at posters and apps with bright colors and a clear design.
We opted for a bright orange, reminiscent of ambulances, as Aidy and its products are to be integrated into the rescue chain. This color is associated by citizens with ambulances and help, which allows us to gain the trust of citizens more quickly by using this color.
The equally strong but dark blue is not only a complementary color to our orange tone, but is also reminiscent of the blue lights on emergency vehicles.
The name “Kju” stands for Compagnon in Justice (in German: Kompagnong in der Justiz). The deliberate choice of this name not only provides a clear link to the core competence, but is also easy to pronounce and memorize. The simplicity and professionalism of the design are emphasized by the cleverly nestled letters. The logo is not only simple, but also holistic and multifunctional, reflecting the versatility and broad applicability of the software suite.
The concise slogan “The software suite for lawyers” (in German: Die Software-Suite für Juristen) was deliberately chosen to focus on the company name and the Kju brand. This short formulation gives customers a quick overview of the company's range of services in the field of legal software. The intention is to leave a lasting impression on the customer so that Kju is anchored in their mind as the first choice in terms of legal software.
